Horror is often seen as a gateway genre for actors and filmmakers, not to mention other artists in different creative departments. Because the genre has a devoted audience and is relatively inexpensive to dabble in, it attracts talented filmmakers looking to prove themselves and level up. For instance, The Marvels director Nia DaCostabroke out in the indie space, but graduated in Hollywood thanks to the Jordan Peele-produced horror movie Candyman. Her fellow Marvel alum, Elizabeth Olsen, has starred in several small-scale projects after appearing as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU. Just last year, she played the lead role alongside Miles Teller and Callum Turner in the fantasy rom-com Eternity. But Olsen was attempting ambitious genre projects even before she could get a movie green-lit by herself.
