In 2018, Gosling's unconventional Neil Armstrong biopic First Man barely crossed the $100 million milestone worldwide. The star's most expensive movie of this run cost $185 million to produce and seemingly had a beloved franchise to rely on, but it ended up becoming one of the biggest box-office misfires of the year.
