The more successful a franchise becomes and the more entries are made, the more the franchise risks becoming stale, repetitive, and diminished. It's an ouroboros of futility and self-destruction. It's why we have so few franchises where every entry could be considered a masterpiece. Even the most critically acclaimed or fan-favorite franchises have entries that, if not outright bad, couldn't reasonably be considered masterpieces.
