Netflix Made a Major Mistake by Officially Cancelling This Hit 8-Part Sci-Fi Series

The Boroughsis the latest original series to get the axe from Netflix, despite having debuted on the platform less than a month ago. Although it shouldn't be a big surprise, given that Netflix has all too frequently ended many of its promising genre shows prematurely, the swift cancellation of The Boroughs is still a surprise considering it was executive produced by Matt and Ross Duffer, who have arguably done more for the streamer's brand than any other creator. The Boroughs was the type of genre show that streaming needed because it felt like a familiar riff on high-concept supernatural thrillers, yet remained entirely original and emotionally rewarding. Beyond the great performances from its cast, The Boroughs had something to say about aging and loneliness that was heartfelt, which didn't prevent the series from being a blast to watch. It's disappointing enough that Netflix cancelled a promising show, but it makes it even more confusing to determine what its goals are.
