It should be acknowledged, sooner rather than later, that there are plenty of action movies from the 1980s that offer a bit more than just action. RoboCop is surprisingly thought-provoking, working as something satirical with its social commentary, and the same can be said about They Live. Both are sci-fi action movies, sure, but then it also feels difficult to call exceptionally well-made action blockbusters (like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Die Hard) mindless.
