Only Alan Ritchson Can Take on Odysseus at the Box Office

With Christopher Nolan's latest epic, The Odyssey, continuing its box-office domination this weekend, studios preferred to stay out of its way. Even Sony might be concerned about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which debuts in a week. The movie will court an entirely different demographic, but The Odyssey is on a generational run, outpacing both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. This weekend, the movie overtook two previous Nolan films — Tenet and Batman Begins — and was essentially given a wide berth by competitors. The only other new releases were Hadestown: The Musical, a filmed adaptation of the Broadway production that serves as an unusual companion piece to The Odyssey, and the action movie Motor City.
