2026 Officially Has a New $1 Billion Hit

It's safe to say that, coming into the year, The Odyssey was one of the most anticipated movies of 2026. Christopher Nolan lit the world on fire — albeit not at the same level as an atomic bomb — with his work on Oppenheimer in 2023, and the film won seven Oscars, including two to Nolan for his work directing and producing the feature, with performance awards going to Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. Nolan spent the better part of 2025 shooting The Odyssey, and if there wasn't enough natural hype for the movie after his success with Oppenheimer, he took things to a new level by announcing that The Odyssey would be the first film in history to be shot entirely with IMAX film cameras. The demand for IMAX showings is unlike any movie ever made, with showings still sold out weeks later.
