Laika Officially Doubles Down on Stop-Motion in the AI Era [Exclusive]




2026 has been a huge year for Travis Knight, who finally returned to the director's chair for the Masters of the Universe movie that dropped in theaters back on June 5. It marked the first time since 2018's Bumblebee that Knight had directed a film after he made his directorial debut just two years prior on Kubo and the Two Strings, the critically acclaimed animated feature starring Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey. Knight isn't taking another eight-year break between films after Masters of the Universe, though. He's officially returning to the big screen on October 23 for Wildwood, the next stop-motion animated film from Laika, the same studio behind the aforementioned Kubo and the Two Strings.
