Low-Budget Horror Hit Beats Star Wars at the Box Office in Stunning Upset

Three weeks into its theatrical run, The Mandalorian and Groguappears to have run out of fuel. The first Star Wars movie in seven years was always a difficult sell, given that it didn't have anything to do with the culture-defining Skywalker Saga and was, instead, based on the popular Disney+ streaming series The Mandalorian. Half the battle was trying to convince audiences that it was a big-screen experience and not a streaming release. However, the film's mediocre reviews did little to motivate audiences to see it in theaters. The Mandalorian and Grogu will certainly find an audience when it debuts on streaming, but it will likely also go down as the least successful live-action Star Wars movie of all time.
