Star Wars' Lowest-Grossing Movie Ever Officially Gets a Second Chance on Streaming

With Amazon's Masters of the Universe and Warner Bros.' Supergirl hogging the limelight when it comes to the summer's biggest box-office flops, let's not forget that the Star Wars franchise suffered its biggest setback in decades as well. The series' biggest underperformer, The Mandalorian and Grogu, received a mixed critical response and ended its theatrical run with $345 million worldwide against a reported budget of $165 million. This was lower than the franchise's previous record low of $393 million worldwide, scored by Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018. Among the many theories that were posited about The Mandalorian and Grogu's underperformance was that audiences viewed it as nothing more than a streaming project, and not the big-screen event that Disney wanted it to be. And now, the movie is playing on home turf, following its debut on Disney+.
