DC Is Officially Replacing Batman's Alfred Pennyworth After 83 Years




Since his inception in 1939, Batman has increasingly been defined by the company he keeps. The Bat-Family has, at times, grown quite large in DC's canon, though the core members tend to remain the same, such as Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, and Damian Wayne, among others. The current mainline comic run for the Caped Crusader that began in 2025 has, similarly, kept those relationships at the forefront, finding new ways to explore the bonds that Bruce Wayne holds dear. Yet, no character has seen a shake-up in this era quite like his ever-loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth, who's been in Batman's life since 1943, has remained his most loyal companion, and even got his own show.
