This 'Star Trek' Quote Changes the Entire Franchise, and No One Talks About It

The Star Trek franchise, throughout its history, has always strived for a higher, more optimistic, and inspiring ground than its kin. It touts the ideas of exploration and discovery, and over the years, memorable quotes from Star Trek have reflected those ideals. "Live long and prosper" is the pinnacle of wishing one well, but maybe not so well that it trumps "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one" as a rule to put the well-being of others ahead of your own. Captain Picard's (Patrick Stewart) "things are only impossible until they're not" is a lesson in never giving up, and his "make it so" suggests a less dictatorial and more collaborative form of leadership. But there's one quote from the franchise that goes against every one of those principles, and its complete lack of a moral core is utterly chilling. Made up of only three words, it's a quote that completely rewrites the franchise as a whole: "Resistance is futile."
